Sudan affirms keenness to resolve all pending issues within CPA implementation
New York, Feb 12 (SUNA)- The Sudanese Permanent Representative to the UN Security Council has reaffirmed the government commitment to reach a peaceful settlement to the remaining questions within the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), including the question of Abyei which he stressed is not a mere division of oil resources or other wealth but a remedy for the future life of two huge ethnic groups co-living together in the region all along history, the Missyria and the Dinka Ngok
Ambassador Dafalla Al Hajj, Sudan’s permanent representative to the Security Council has pointed out that Abyei area remained an area of contact and a bridge linking the north and the southern parts of the country and nurturing tribal continuum for centuries and that therefore it was necessary to take into consideration, when remedying the question, the inclusive approach and tilting for the voice of wisdom , so long as the desire and the ultimate objective is a sustained peace and stability in the region
Ambassador Daffalla has pointed out that the fact that the two parties to the CPA wee committed at the highest level to reach a peaceful settlement stand as the only guarantee to avoid future tension in this important area and to avert turning it into a scene of confrontation
He pinpointed to the fact that the Sudanese leadership have honored their pledges to recognize and to endorse the outcome of the referendum of southern Sudan and that therefore it was imperative that the international community respond in kind and reconsider its stand vis–vis the hero of peace, President Omar al Bashir
He stressed that the separation of southern Sudan did not mean erecting a geographical wall separating the two sides or severing the popular relations between the two sides, rather, he stressed, it would mean a fresh start for a new era of cooperation and integration and working together given the common interests and the interwoven interests between the two sides
On Darfur he stressed the government policy is to reach a solution to the problem and not to manage it, through an all inclusive approach to reach a comprehensive political settlement
He underlined the government commitment the Doha under the supervision of the Qatari government and with the support and backing of the African Union and the United Nations
He said to ensure that all and everybody is taking part in the process, the government has adopted a Darfur peace strategy currently being implemented , in close coordination with the UNAMID mission in Darfur
He said a key element in this strategy is to involve all parties in Darfur in the peace process from within Darfur itself, parallel with the Doha process
He stressed the need to lift all economic sanctions imposed on the Sudan and that debts should be written off on the north and on the south, underlining the interdependence of the stability of the north an the south
