Western Bahr el Ghazal governor calls for unity among cabinet members

August 4, 2012 (JUBA) – Western Bahr el Ghazal state governor, Rizik Hassan Zachariah, has called on the newly appointed cabinet ministers to foster peace and harmony amongst constituents in their respected institutions.

Hassan made the remark while chairing the first ever Council of Ministers meeting on Thursday in the state capital Wau, weeks after overseeing the swearing in ceremony of the newly appointed new cabinet.

Derek Alfred Uya, the state minister of information and communications said at the meeting they discussed issues relating to the state security, peace and financial policy and also revised the budget of the state and how to work with the general policy of the finance.

“It was the first gubernatorial address since the appointment of the new cabinet. It was moving introductory briefing. A lot of issues were discussed. Some of the important items were security, economic strategic planning and building relations between institutions”, Uya told Sudan Tribune.

Minister Uya also explained that they discussed the World Food Programme’s (WFP) new policy relating to changing the systems for supporting developmental programs.

“The council discussed at length the letter of the United Nations World Food Programme which was all about support to the state and people in developmental project. WFP is moving away from focusing on delivering food aid to provide support to development projects. It will provide food to farmer groups and any other organised group implementing developmental and life saving community projects,” explained Uya.

He said the WFP presented the letter at a workshop organised by the new cabinet last week by the state secretariat which discussed items relating to resolution, office rotation, establishment and composition of the state council of ministers.

The state official spokesperson also explained that governor Hassan said “the governor emphasised on the need for ministers to remain close to the citizens in order to provide services to the people. He also congratulated the new cabinet and the state, citizens for the new cabinet.”
